Books
Financial
I Will Teach You To Be Rich- Ramit Sethi . An excellent book on automation, saving, budgeting, and investing. I would highly recommend this as a starting place if you are brand new to personal finance.
Quit Like a Millionaire- Kristy Shen and Bryce Leung . Another great book for those interested in the FIRE movement! They talk about more advanced topics such as the: Yield Shield, Cash Cushion and Geoarbitrage!
Financial Freedom- Grant Sabatier . Investing, hacking your job, side hustles. Grant covers it all in this excellent book.
5 Steps to Retire in 5 Years- Jason Fieber . Jason Fieber is one of my favorite FIRE/Geoarbitrage bloggers. I can’t recommend this book enough!
Life Optimization
When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing- Daniel H. Pink . I love Daniel Pink’s books. This book is extremely eye-opening and covers all things related to timing. Very insightful and full of actionable tips.
Own the Day, Own Your Life- Aubrey Marcus . We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle.
Best book I’ve ever read on designing each day to create your ideal life!
Travel Gear
Bags and Luggage
YOREPEK Backpack– I wanted a cheaper computer backpack to hold all of my electronics and something big enough to be used as a carry-on. I love this backpack and it has held up really well after a year of travel and daily usage. It has lots of pockets and plenty of space!
Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Ultra-Light Convertible Wheeled Duffel Bag Backpack 110 L– This bag is very lightweight, has held up well and definitely has enough space for everything I need as a digital nomad. It has space for all of my clothes (which I bring too many of) as well as other items which may not be as common for digital nomads including podcasting equipment and nutritional supplements. My only complaint is that there isn’t an extendable arm to roll this bag on it’s wheels, but this has never been a major issue. If I move to a new location, I only have to move this twice a month.
Bagail 4 Set/6 Set Compression Packing Cubes Travel Expandable Packing Organizers– Travel Cubes are a necessity if you’re packing for the digital nomad lifestyle. I’ve tried a bunch of different brands, but these bad boys are my favorite. They’re a very durable material and they’re compression cubes which save space. Great way to stay organized with different types of clothes while traveling around.
Podcasting Equipment
Zoom H4n Pro All Black 4-Track Portable Recorder (2020 Model)– this is the device I use for all in-person podcast recordings. I like that I can record without my computer and it’s very portable so I can meet people wherever, quickly set up and start recording!
Audio-Technica ATR2100x-USB Cardioid Dynamic Microphone (ATR Series)– I have two of these for the in-person recordings. Everyone talks about this mic so figured it must be good. I tried another cheaper mic and the sound quality was terrible, I would spend a bit more and get these for solid sound quality.
Clothes
Tommy Hilfiger Men’s Lightweight Water Resistant Packable Down Puffer Jacket– This is much cheaper than other brands, looks good, and has held up really well. I get alot of compliments on it.
Columbia Men’s Diablo Creek Rain Shell– great rain jacket, held up well at Machu Picchu 😊
BALEAF Men’s 7” Athletic Running Shorts Quick Dry Mesh Liner Back Zip Pocket– These are my favorite running/workout shorts. They have built-in underwear, are super lightweight, have a nice little zip pocket in the back for hold keys, or something on a run. These are the best and really cheap, I have almost every color.
SPIbelt Large Pocket Running Belt– didn’t know where to put this. Under bags or clothes, but you wear it so I guess clothes it is. My buddy Michael recommended this to me. Works better for me than an armband to hold keys and phone while working out or going for a run.
Work and Travel Tools
Remote Year
I would highly recommend Remote Year to anyone interested in living the digital nomad lifestyle. As a work and travel program, you pay a set monthly fee and then they set you up with accommodation in a city abroad, a coworking space membership, travel between cities, fun activities and professional development events. They also have a fantastic alumni or “citizen” program which offers more flexibility and discounts on travel booking through their platform.
Express VPN
As a digital nomad, you 100% need a VPN to keep you safe while browsing online. I have tried other VPNs before but ExpressVPN is by far my favorite! Whether you need to manage banking or investment information or just watch your favorite Netflix show, ExpressVPN is consistent and reliable. If you’re interested, please consider signing up using my link and you’ll get 30 days for free!
Google FI
I highly recommend Google FI for US digital nomads. I’ve used Google Fi as my phone plan for the entire time I’ve been a digital nomad. It’s convenient, affordable, and had high-speed data in every location I traveled to!
Productivity Tools
I absolutely love Notion for all things note-taking and personal productivity!
When I started using Notion I was able to get rid of 3 separate apps- a task tracker, a habit tracker, and separate notes apps. It has almost replaced my calendar as well!
Courses
Building A Profitable Blog
Julie of Millennial Boss and Cody of Fly to FI have teamed up to create Gold City Ventures! If you’re new to blogging, I highly recommend their Blogging For Profit Side Hustle Course to get started.
They walk you through all the basics, including selecting hosting and setting up WordPress then go through everything it takes to create a high traffic and profitable blog.
Another fantastic course benefit is that you’re added to a private Facebook group where you can ask any questions you might have. The group also has weekly knowledge drops on so many topics- driving traffic with Pinterest, pitching your blog to major publications, SEO, and much much more!
